Travel And Tour World has identified 30 destinations for Christmas travel in 2025, spanning traditional European markets, Arctic escapes, tropical retreats and major cities.
Travel and Tour World (TTW) has identified 30 destinations around the world for Christmas travel in 2025, presenting a selection that ranges from established European market cities to tropical and heritage-led holiday locations. The list places New York City at number one, followed by Budapest, London, Strasbourg and Nuremberg. Its significance lies less in a single travel trend than in the breadth of festive formats now being marketed across the international tourism landscape.
The selection covers several distinct Christmas settings. European destinations dominate the ranking, including Vienna, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Rome, Prague, Salzburg, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Basel and Bruges, while the list also includes Tokyo, Cancún, Cape Town, Buenos Aires, Saint Lucia, Wānaka, Quebec City, Rio de Janeiro and Dubai. Travel and Tour World frames the range around traditional markets, snowy landscapes, metropolitan light displays, warm-weather celebrations and local cultural experiences.
Specific entries are linked to recognisable seasonal attractions. New York City is associated with the Rockefeller Christmas Tree, Fifth Avenue displays, ice-skating and festive markets, while Strasbourg is highlighted for its Christkindelsmärik and more than 300 festive chalets. Rovaniemi is presented through its snowy setting, reindeer rides and Santa Claus Village, and Copenhagen through Tivoli Gardens, seasonal stalls, performances and Danish hygge.
The ranking also reflects how Christmas destination marketing can combine established traditions with broader travel preferences. Visitors seeking a classic winter experience are directed towards cities such as Nuremberg, Vienna, Edinburgh and Rovaniemi, while those looking for warmer conditions can consider Cancún, Saint Lucia, the Florida Keys, Rio de Janeiro or Cape Town. Tokyo and Dubai extend the list into highly urban, contemporary settings where seasonal illumination, shopping and entertainment sit alongside local cultural character.
Anup Kumar Keshan, founder, CEO and editor-in-chief of Travel and Tour World, described Christmas travel as a global cultural phenomenon shaped by tradition, joy and celebration. The company’s 2025 list consequently functions as a broad editorial guide rather than a narrowly defined market ranking, grouping destinations according to the different ways travellers may experience the season. For Travel and Tour World, the exercise reinforces the continuing role of festive programming and cultural identity in how destinations present themselves to international visitors.
