Discover Puerto Rico and Matador Network have released a three-part Roku series that presents the island through local experiences spanning nature, recreation and culture.
Discover Puerto Rico and Matador Network have released “Puerto Rico: Mountains to Coast,” a three-part series streaming on Matador Network and Roku. The project follows Puerto Rico native and fitness instructor Yara Gato on a nature-focused road trip across the island, framing outdoor recreation as a way to encounter local landscapes and rhythms. Its release illustrates how destination marketing is extending beyond conventional holiday imagery into creator-led entertainment designed to give viewers a more grounded sense of place.
The series moves through seven ecosystems and places Gato alongside local guides, with each episode built around a different combination of physical activity and reflection. The format presents Puerto Rico through a resident’s perspective rather than as a list of attractions, while retaining the practical appeal of a travel programme. Discover Puerto Rico described the collaboration as a way to show the island as a setting for deeper connections with the natural world and with oneself.
Its three episodes cover a broad range of settings and activities. “Trails and Climbs” includes El Yunque National Forest, Yokahú Tower and Vega Baja, while “Rivers and Reflections” visits Cascada Las Delicias, Toro Negro State Forest and Río Tanamá. The final episode features Wilderness Beach in Aguadilla, the Rincón Domes Mountain Bike Trail and Tres Palmas Marine Reserve; across the series, Gato surfs, mountain bikes, rock climbs and snorkels.
The partnership also gives the campaign a distribution model that links destination promotion with established travel media. Discover Puerto Rico is a private, not-for-profit destination marketing organisation responsible for the destination’s global marketing, sales and promotion, while Matador Network produces feature articles, city guides, creator-led content and original streaming shows. The release said Matador’s videos generate more than 140 million monthly views and that its social channels reach more than 15 million followers, claims that indicate the potential scale of the collaboration without guaranteeing a particular audience outcome.
For Puerto Rico, “Mountains to Coast” places adventure, wellness and local knowledge in the same narrative rather than separating them into different travel propositions. The series’ emphasis on changing landscapes, guided excursions and a Puerto Rican host gives the destination organisation a vehicle for presenting outdoor experiences alongside culture and lifestyle. It leaves the campaign’s central proposition deliberately broad: the island can be encountered through movement, but also through the quieter sense of connection that the programme’s title and journey are intended to convey.
