HydraForce, Elevāt and Bosch Rexroth are extending over-the-air updates to off-highway machinery, showing how remote software management is becoming part of industrial equipment service.
HydraForce and Elevāt have expanded their collaboration to enable remote access and over-the-air software updates for Bosch Rexroth BODAS controllers used in off-highway equipment. The capability combines a HydraForce Connected Control Unit from Bosch with Elevāt’s software platform, allowing manufacturers to diagnose problems and deploy controller updates without automatically sending service personnel to the machine.
That shift matters because equipment used in construction, agriculture, mining, forestry and material handling can operate far from service centers. When software changes or diagnostic work require an in-person visit, even relatively routine maintenance can involve travel, scheduling and machine downtime. Remote access creates an alternative in cases where an issue can be addressed through software rather than physical repair.
The integration brings practices already familiar in connected consumer products and passenger vehicles further into specialized industrial machinery. Manufacturers using the system can remotely examine equipment and deliver software updates to Bosch Rexroth BODAS controllers through Elevāt, potentially shortening the time between identifying a software-related issue and addressing it. The announcement does not eliminate the need for field technicians, particularly when problems involve mechanical or hydraulic components, but it expands the range of work that can be handled remotely.
The development also reflects how the definition of equipment service is changing as machinery becomes more dependent on electronics and software. HydraForce’s background in hydraulic motion control, Bosch Rexroth’s controller technology and Elevāt’s industrial IoT platform represent different layers of the same machine ecosystem. Connecting those layers means software deployment and diagnostics can increasingly become ongoing parts of equipment management rather than activities tied primarily to scheduled service visits.
For original equipment manufacturers, that creates opportunities to rethink support throughout a machine’s operating life. Faster software distribution could help standardize updates across fleets and make remote troubleshooting more practical, while connected systems also place greater importance on reliable integration between hardware and digital services. HydraForce and Elevāt say further remote machine-management capabilities are planned, suggesting that OTA updates are one step in a broader effort to make off-highway equipment more continuously connected and remotely serviceable.
