The company is offering discounts to affected guests and operational support to property owners as the short-term rental sector faces renewed scrutiny over execution.
AvantStay is offering assistance to travellers and building owners affected by the termination of Marriott International’s licensing agreement with Sonder and the Chapter 7 liquidation of Sonder’s US business. The hospitality and property management company said impacted guests can receive 20% off, while owners can seek help with continuity of operations, guest relocations and maintaining cash flow. The intervention places operational reliability at the centre of a disruption that has unsettled both accommodation customers and property partners.
The situation highlights the importance of the operating model behind short-term rental and alternative accommodation properties. AvantStay said the developments involving Sonder point to a broader industry shift towards operators with strong reviews, integrated hospitality services and profitable performance. For building owners, that makes the choice of management partner consequential beyond marketing or distribution, particularly when a property needs to remain open while its operating arrangements change.
AvantStay said its institutional platform has allowed owners to onboard thousands of distressed units and reposition them as hospitality properties. The company also said numerous properties formerly managed by Sonder have moved to its management over the past 18 months. According to AvantStay, those transitions have produced year-over-year revenue increases of 20% to 30%, guest satisfaction ratings that often rose from below 4.1 to above 4.85, and a more than 42% increase in direct bookings.
The company operates across more than 65 US markets and 175-plus cities, with a portfolio of more than 2,500 short-term rental properties and more than 150,000 guest reviews averaging above 4.8 stars. Its platform combines booking technology with in-field and remote management, while the company describes its service as spanning concierge support and personalised stays. Those capabilities suggest that scale is being presented not simply as a way to add properties, but as infrastructure for maintaining service standards across a distributed portfolio.
AvantStay is also using The Gilmore, its four-star hotel in Nashville, to illustrate the model it is pursuing. Founder and chief executive Sean Breuner said the property reached the top position on TripAdvisor during its first three months, while co-founder Reuben Doetsch described the company’s approach as technology-enabled and hospitality-led. The company’s support for Sonder-affected guests and owners therefore extends an existing strategy: combining property operations, software and service under one platform as accommodation businesses reassess the partners they need to remain viable.
