The Farmer’s Dog has announced a partnership with the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine to fund a three-year Small Animal Clinical Nutrition Residency, expanding opportunities for veterinarians pursuing advanced training in animal nutrition. The initiative reflects a growing recognition that nutrition has become an increasingly important component of preventive veterinary care, while also highlighting the limited number of residency programs available for specialists in the field. By supporting the program, The Farmer’s Dog is making its second investment in a university-based veterinary nutrition residency.
The residency will provide graduate veterinarians with advanced clinical education alongside research experience under faculty mentors specializing in small animal nutrition and internal medicine. Upon completion, participants will be prepared to pursue board certification as Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionists®, a credential that remains relatively uncommon because of the limited number of accredited training pathways. According to the announcement, the University of Georgia program will reach a milestone by having three nutrition residents in training simultaneously for the first time.
The investment comes as nutrition continues to receive greater attention within veterinary medicine.
