The physician-owned Florida practice has introduced a nationwide skincare line shaped by recurring patient concerns, alongside virtual consultations for care beyond Tampa Bay.
Luma Dermatology has introduced LUMA Skincare, a dermatologist-developed range created by the practice’s founder, Nupur Patel, MD, FAAD, and made available nationwide through its website. The line grew from products and routines Patel developed in response to recurring questions and concerns among her patients. Virtual consultations are also available, extending access beyond the practice’s base in Clearwater, Florida. Together, the products and remote appointments connect clinical guidance with skincare used between consultations.
Patel designed the range for a full spectrum of skin tones, including skin of colour, and for conditions associated with Florida’s humidity and year-round ultraviolet exposure. She said patients often struggled with products that were too harsh, ineffective or difficult to select without professional guidance. LUMA Skincare consequently presents a curated range shaped by patterns observed in the consulting room rather than an extensive general-purpose assortment. The approach reflects the practice’s focus on dermatologist-led care across general, paediatric and aesthetic dermatology.
Three products provide accessible starting points. Luma Calming Cleanser combines colloidal sulphur with a salicylic acid ester and is intended for reactive, combination or oily skin, while Luma CE Antioxidant Serum uses vitamins C and E, ferulic esters and an olive-derived squalane base; the serum is fragrance- and preservative-free. Luma Brite Body Serum pairs hydroxypinacolone retinoate, described by the company as a gentle retinoid, with arbutin in a lightweight formula intended to visibly brighten, smooth and even skin tone.
Two further products, Luma Compound and Luma Compound Brightening Pads, remain available only through consultation. Patel recommends them after examining a patient’s skin in person or virtually because their key component is arbutin and they address hyperpigmentation, a concern she frequently encounters in practice. That restriction creates a distinction within the range between products offered for direct purchase and formulas linked to individual assessment. Virtual appointments are subject to state licensing requirements and do not replace in-person medical care when clinically indicated.
The product line also draws attention to the structure behind it. Luma Dermatology is wholly physician-owned, has no private equity investors and has treated families in Pinellas County since 2021. Patel said that independence allowed her to develop the range according to her preferred approach to patient care and product selection. With nationwide shipping and remote consultations, the practice is carrying elements of that model beyond its local patient base while retaining professional oversight for selected formulas. The products are cosmetics and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease, and individual results may vary.
