The $26 million destination is designed to broaden Peninsula Papagayo’s appeal by combining sport, wellness, dining and community life in one walkable setting.
Peninsula Papagayo is opening Papagayo Park, a $26 million, 23-acre social, wellness and recreation hub intended to become a central gathering place for the Costa Rican resort community. Developed by Mohari Hospitality and Gencom, the park is designed for members and guests of Four Seasons, Andaz and Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. Its planned opening in December 2025 adds a substantial shared amenity to a destination that is positioning everyday community life alongside luxury hospitality.
The project reflects the increasingly integrated role that shared recreational spaces can play within resort and residential developments. Rather than focusing solely on hotel facilities or private homes, Papagayo Park brings sports, family activities, casual food and wellness into a single environment intended for residents and hotel guests of different ages. Peninsula Papagayo describes the park as part of its broader approach to combining outdoor adventure, nature and social connection on Costa Rica’s North Pacific coast.
Designed in collaboration with planning and landscape architecture firm EDSA, the park will include a Racquet Center with four Rebound Ace hard-surface tennis courts, six pickleball courts and two padel courts. Other facilities include a custom-built pump track for bikes, scooters and skateboards, a children’s adventure area with a splash zone, waterslides and playground, as well as a dog park, art studio, wellness and event shala, central lawn and casual dining. Patio Social, a restaurant and bar, and Cono Loco, a gelateria, will sit near the pool and anchor the park’s social activity.
The mix gives Papagayo Park a role that extends beyond recreation. Francesca Poddie, Peninsula Papagayo’s chief operating officer, said the development is intended not only for multigenerational travel but also for everyday life on the peninsula, with activities and gathering spaces that encourage interaction among residents and visitors. Opening celebrations are scheduled to include a padel clinic hosted by 11-time world champion Roby Gattiker, providing an early introduction to the new racquet facilities.
Papagayo Park also fits into a wider master plan that includes SurfX, The Explorers, The Outpost at Palmares Preserve, the Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course and a fleet of e-bikes connecting neighbourhoods, hotels and experiences across the 1,400-acre peninsula. In that context, the park is less a standalone attraction than an additional layer in the destination’s hospitality and residential offer. Its significance will depend on how effectively the new facilities become part of daily life, but the development gives Peninsula Papagayo a more visible communal centre around which its broader resort strategy can organise.
