The airline’s new SeattleFWC26 livery connects a major sports event with hometown identity, community activity and Alaska’s international brand presence.
Alaska Airlines has launched a custom aircraft livery celebrating Seattle’s role as a FIFA World Cup 26™ host city, placing the carrier’s hometown identity at the centre of its tournament activity. The design was created in partnership with SeattleFWC26, the city’s local organising committee, and Qatar Airways, with Alaska Airlines acting as an Official Seattle World Cup 2026™ Host City Supporter. The announcement gives the airline a visible way to link its regular network operations with the summer football event and the regional effort behind it.
The livery will be displayed on a Boeing 737-9 MAX with tail number 985AK. Its design combines the Seattle Host City logo with a football shown in motion, while a whale-tail graphic draws on elements from the official Seattle Host City poster and references the Pacific Northwest’s maritime heritage. The aircraft therefore carries more than tournament branding: it brings together visual cues associated with Seattle, the host-city programme and Alaska Airlines’ established regional identity.
A declaration reading “WE ARE SEATTLE” appears on the underside of the aircraft. Alaska Airlines said the message reflects its pride in the city and its commitment to welcoming fans from across its network and beyond. The carrier’s release also said the partnership supports several community initiatives during the spring and summer, including the inaugural Blind Soccer international tournament, community art installations featuring nonprofit partnerships in the Seattle area, and a flag-raising ceremony at the Space Needle involving other host-city supporters.
The announcement illustrates how host-city sponsorship can extend beyond conventional event promotion. Rather than limiting the partnership to a logo placement or a single campaign, Alaska is using an operating aircraft and a series of local activities to make the relationship visible in the places where the tournament will be experienced. SeattleFWC26 chief executive Peter Tomozawa described the livery as a reflection of the Pacific Northwest’s innovative and welcoming character, while Alaska vice-president of brand and marketing Eric Edge framed it as a celebration of the airline’s hometown and its connection to destinations around the globe.
For Alaska Airlines, the aircraft provides a mobile expression of Seattle’s World Cup preparations while remaining connected to the carrier’s broader role as a global airline. The company said it operates hubs including Seattle and serves more than 140 destinations across North America, Latin America, Asia, the Pacific and Europe. As the tournament approaches, the livery places that network in direct conversation with the local identity of the host city, making the aircraft both a brand asset and a public sign of Seattle’s participation in FIFA World Cup 26™.
