Visit Long Beach has outlined a weeklong Independence Day programme combining three coastal fireworks shows, Olympic-linked sporting events and charity fundraising.
Visit Long Beach has announced Sea to Shining LBC: America’s 250, a weeklong Independence Day celebration scheduled to culminate on July 4, 2026, with three simultaneous fireworks shows across Long Beach’s 5.5-mile coastline. The programme is designed to combine pyrotechnics, athletics and entertainment while highlighting the city’s connection to the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Its scale positions the event as a coordinated civic celebration rather than a single waterfront display.
The sporting programme is scheduled to begin before the holiday, with coastal rowing and beach sprints listed for June 27–28 from 9 a.m., kite surfing taking place throughout the week, and water polo planned for July 2–3. The release said locations along the waterfront and participating athletes were still forthcoming. The schedule links the Independence Day programme to sports that are relevant to Long Beach’s planned role in the 2028 Games, while retaining the event’s broader community focus.
The fireworks finale is planned to launch from three barges positioned off Granada Beach, Junipero Beach and the Queen Mary. Visit Long Beach said the synchronised displays are expected to last approximately 20 minutes and should be visible from locations along the coast, including the bluff, Lions Lighthouse for Sight, Shoreline Village, Belmont Pier and area beaches. Free public viewing will be available, while premium experiences are planned at the Queen Mary, Claire’s at the Museum at the Long Beach Museum of Art and aboard Harbor Breeze Cruises vessels.
The programme also extends beyond the fireworks themselves. At the Queen Mary, the “Cheers to 250 Years!” event is scheduled to run from 3 to 10 p.m. on July 4, featuring live music, tribute bands, DJs, strolling performers, interactive games, themed entertainment zones and American food and beverages. A World War II aircraft flyover is also planned, while Claire’s and Harbor Breeze Cruises are expected to offer elevated or water-based viewing experiences.
Sea to Shining LBC is described in the release as a passion project of John Morris, who operates Boathouse on the Bay and co-founded Legends. The celebration is also intended to raise funds for local charities, with money collected by the nonprofit Eminent Giving Initiative and distributed to organisations including Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach, Autism Partnership Foundation and YMCA of Greater Long Beach. For Visit Long Beach, the event brings destination marketing, civic commemoration, sports programming and waterfront hospitality into one July 4 framework, with further details reported as forthcoming.
