Scalefocus has received a Silver Globee Award for an AI platform designed to make complex aviation information easier to search, compare and use. Named Best of Category for Retrieval-Augmented Generation, the system was developed for a major European aviation organization responsible for airspace information, regulatory documentation and operational oversight.
At the center of the project is a problem that predates the current AI boom: critical aeronautical information can be difficult and time-consuming to retrieve from large, multi-section publications. Teams working with Aeronautical Information Publications, or AIP IFR, have traditionally relied on manual searches while also producing recurring compliance reports and tracking changes between document versions, creating opportunities for delays and human error.
Scalefocus developed a locally hosted RAG assistant that allows users to ask natural-language questions and receive answers tied to exact paragraphs in the underlying regulatory material. The broader platform also incorporates full-text search, automated reporting from structured operational data and document-version comparison, with the entire system operating inside a controlled environment intended to meet aviation security and regulatory requirements.
According to Scalefocus, the system produced a 70% improvement in aeronautical data retrieval and a 50% increase in the speed of report creation and document comparison. The company also reports that automation eliminated human error from recurring reporting workflows. Particularly significant for a regulated setting, AI-generated answers include source citations, allowing users to trace information back to the documents rather than treating the model’s response as an unsupported conclusion.
The award is notable less as a general endorsement of generative AI than as an example of how the technology can be narrowed to a specific operational problem. Aviation places unusually high demands on accuracy, security and traceability, making unrestricted AI output difficult to rely on for critical information. Scalefocus’ approach instead combines retrieval-based AI with local deployment and explicit source references, illustrating how domain-specific systems may find practical roles in regulated industries where the ability to verify an answer can matter as much as generating it quickly.
