The automotive mirror manufacturer is directing drivers and repair businesses towards replacing damaged glass while retaining working components in the wider side-view mirror assembly.
Burco is highlighting replacement side-view mirror glass as a potentially more economical option when damage does not extend to the complete mirror assembly. The Grand Rapids, Michigan-based manufacturer says drivers and repair professionals should assess which components are damaged before choosing a repair. Its approach centres on replacing the broken reflective surface while retaining functioning equipment, although the appropriate solution depends on the condition and features of each mirror.
A complete side-view mirror assembly may contain adjustment motors, folding mechanisms, turn signals, cameras and other components alongside the glass. Burco argues that replacing the whole unit when those elements remain functional can add unnecessary expense. Keeping usable components on the vehicle can also reduce the quantity of material discarded during the repair, giving workshops and parts retailers another consideration when advising customers.
The company offers two product lines for different types of damage. Redi-Cuts replacement mirrors are intended for cases in which the glass is broken but the existing backing plate remains intact, while Redi-Set-Go products include a pre-applied motor mount for applications where the backing plate is damaged or missing. Damage affecting the housing, mounting structure or actuator may require a more extensive repair. Burco cautions that savings vary according to the vehicle, mirror features, replacement part and labour requirements, and says fitment and feature compatibility should be checked for every application.
The replacement glass is sold online through MirrorGlassPlus.com, RockAuto.com and CarParts.com, and through the online or physical-store operations of AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts and O’Reilly Auto Parts. Burco also identifies Keystone, Factory Motor Parts and Parts Authority as wholesale distribution partners. That mix of specialist websites, large automotive retailers and wholesale channels places the repair option within both do-it-yourself and professional purchasing routes, without changing the need to diagnose the extent of the damage first.
