Fenimore Farm & Country Village is extending its seasonal light festival with new installations, themed weekends and programming designed to broaden its winter visitor offer.
Fenimore Farm & Country Village is extending Glimmer Nights to six festive weeks in 2025, with the seasonal light festival scheduled to run from Thursday through Sunday evenings through December 28. The programme includes expanded displays, interactive activities and themed weekends across the historic village in Cooperstown, New York. The development gives the museum a longer winter operating window while adding more structured reasons for visitors to return during the season.
The event combines illuminated farm paths and light installations with food, family programming and live interpretation of the site. The New England Holiday Light Company is returning to create the outdoor experience, which includes three new immersive installations and the return of the 20-foot Mega Chicken display, complete with glowing eggs and illuminated tracks. The mix of visual spectacle and heritage setting positions Glimmer Nights as a seasonal attraction rather than a lights-only walk-through.
Programming is divided across a series of themed weekends. The November 22–23 opening weekend is set to feature tractor rides and a new Holiday Tree Decorating Contest, while the November 28–29 Holiday Market will bring local crafts vendors, artisans and museum-made goods to the site, opening at 3 p.m. before Glimmer Nights entry begins at 4:30 p.m. Dickens Nights are scheduled for December 6–7, with performances and readings from A Christmas Carol, followed by Wassail Nights from December 11–14 with spiced cider and local musical performances.
Additional programming extends the event beyond the central light displays. Solstice Nights on December 20–21 will include traditional crafts such as wreath making, alongside a Saturday evening open-air bar serving seasonal cocktails and a more family-oriented drinks and snacks offer on Sunday. The December 27–28 closing weekend is planned around a Winter Wonderland theme, with snowman building, visits from the Ice Queens, returning tractor rides and the final opportunity to vote in the tree-decorating contest.
Food and hospitality are also part of the visitor proposition, including deluxe hot chocolate at Crossroads Café and Sunday visits with Santa inside Bump Tavern, except on December 28. Tickets are available in advance or at the door, with pricing and specialty-event information provided through Fenimore Farm’s Glimmer Nights website. By extending the run and layering in markets, performances, crafts and family activities, the museum is using a single seasonal event to support a broader winter programme while keeping the focus on the character of its historic village.
