Ontario International Airport is seeing a sharp rise in TSA PreCheck participation as new screening infrastructure and on-site enrollment options reflect changing traveler expectations around speed and convenience.
Ontario International Airport is reporting a significant increase in TSA PreCheck participation as it continues investing in faster passenger screening and expanded security infrastructure. The airport says the share of departing travelers using the expedited program has doubled over the past two years, rising from 13% to 26%, a trend that coincides with the introduction of on-site enrollment services and checkpoint upgrades across its terminals.
The airport’s latest improvements include an expanded security checkpoint in Terminal 2 featuring six screening lanes, one of which is primarily dedicated to TSA PreCheck passengers. A similar lane is planned for Terminal 4 as part of an ongoing expansion project. While those lanes may occasionally be used to meet operational needs, the goal is to provide eligible travelers with a more consistent and efficient screening experience during both routine and peak travel periods.
The growth in enrollment reflects a broader shift in passenger priorities. As airports recover from years of fluctuating travel demand, convenience has become an increasingly important factor alongside safety and reliability. Programs such as TSA PreCheck, which generally allow travelers to keep shoes, belts, and light jackets on while leaving approved electronics and liquids inside carry-on bags, have become a practical option for both frequent flyers and occasional vacation travelers seeking shorter security wait times. According to the Transportation Security Administration, roughly 99% of PreCheck members nationwide wait 10 minutes or less at security checkpoints.
Ontario International Airport has also made enrollment more accessible by partnering with an authorized provider to offer TSA PreCheck registration and renewals directly inside both terminals. Travelers can complete the process without scheduling an appointment, while existing members can renew regardless of their original enrollment provider. In addition, the airport hosts a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Global Entry Enrollment Center, giving international travelers another opportunity to streamline future journeys.
As passenger numbers continue to grow, airports are increasingly looking beyond terminal expansions to improve the overall travel experience. Ontario International Airport’s latest investments suggest that operational efficiency now extends beyond adding gates or flights, focusing instead on reducing friction throughout the passenger journey. For many travelers, the time spent moving through security has become just as important as the flight itself, making streamlined screening an increasingly valuable part of modern air travel.
