ILIA Beauty’s latest eyeliner launch reflects the growing demand for cosmetics that combine long-lasting performance, thoughtful materials, and formulas designed with sensitive eyes in mind.
ILIA Beauty has introduced Thru Line Waterproof Eyeliner, expanding its colour cosmetics portfolio with a product designed to balance durability, comfort, and sustainability. Available in ten shades, the sharpenable eyeliner is formulated for sensitive eyes while delivering waterproof wear and highly pigmented colour. The launch highlights how clean beauty brands are increasingly working to demonstrate that gentler formulations can compete with traditional performance-focused makeup without asking consumers to compromise.
The beauty industry has seen a steady shift toward products that prioritise both ingredient transparency and wearability, particularly in categories such as eye makeup where comfort is essential. Consumers are paying closer attention not only to how products perform throughout the day, but also to the materials used in packaging and the suitability of formulas for sensitive skin. These changing expectations have encouraged brands to invest in innovations that address environmental concerns alongside cosmetic performance.
According to ILIA, the new eyeliner features a waterproof formula that is ophthalmologist tested, suitable for use on the waterline, and available in matte and shimmer finishes. The pencil’s barrel is made in part from upcycled coffee chaff, repurposing a byproduct of coffee production that would otherwise become waste. The company also cites a 21-day consumer perception study involving 50 women, in which participants reported positive experiences with application, comfort, blendability, and long-lasting wear, while acknowledging that these findings reflect consumer feedback rather than independent clinical evaluation. To accompany the release, ILIA has partnered with model and entrepreneur Jasmine Tookes, along with several artists, to present the eyeliner as a tool for creative expression through a campaign centred on eye-focused makeup artistry.
The launch also illustrates how cosmetic brands are increasingly connecting product development with broader creative narratives. Rather than presenting makeup solely as a functional item, companies are framing beauty products as instruments of personal style, supported by collaborations with artists, designers, and public figures whose work extends beyond traditional beauty marketing. This approach allows brands to build cultural relevance while encouraging consumers to experiment with self-expression.
ILIA’s latest release reflects the continued evolution of clean beauty from a niche concept into a mature segment of the cosmetics market. As expectations around performance, sustainability, and skin compatibility continue to rise, brands are finding that innovation increasingly depends on addressing all three priorities together rather than treating them as separate goals.
