ATP Flight School is expanding alumni support for Spirit pilots affected by the airline’s May wind-down, pairing transition services with direct access to recruiters and coaching.
ATP Flight School is activating its Alumni Association to support ATP graduates affected by Spirit Airlines’ May wind-down, offering eligible pilots funded career-transition resources. The programme is aimed at alumni who participated in the Spirit Direct Program and were still actively flying with Spirit. ATP said the support is intended to help those pilots move into new airline roles, linking an airline disruption to the longer-term career services offered by a flight-training provider.
The immediate assistance centres on interview preparation, a key requirement for pilots seeking positions with other carriers. Eligible graduates will receive a fully funded course through Spitfire Elite, valued at $849, with personalised coaching and interview preparation. All ATP alumni can also access job-placement assistance, résumé review and career planning through the company’s no-cost Alumni Association and Career Services team.
ATP is also giving displaced graduates priority access to its career expo in October at the company’s training centre in Arlington, Texas. The event is exclusive to ATP students and graduates and is designed to provide direct access to airline recruiters, alongside networking and job-placement opportunities with regional and major airlines. The release did not state a specific October date or time for the event, reporting only that it is planned for that month.
The announcement places the Alumni Association within ATP’s broader post-graduation support model rather than treating training as the endpoint of the relationship. ATP said it has provided nearly $1 million in professional development for alumni to date, including sponsored flight-instructor certificate renewals, crew resource management training, type-rating programmes, conference attendance and interview-preparation courses. Its airline Career Tracks are presented as another part of that continuing support.
For Spirit pilots facing a change in employment circumstances, the measures combine practical preparation with access to the networks surrounding airline recruitment. For ATP, the response underscores how a flight school can remain involved after certification through coaching, career planning and recruiter-facing events. The company said its support for affected alumni reflects a complete airline-career approach, while the immediate outcome for individual pilots will depend on the opportunities available to them.
