The Midwest retailer is pairing discounted turkeys with a Thanksgiving ingredient basket priced below US$35, while extending savings on holiday cooking and baking essentials into December.
Meijer is putting its own-brand range at the centre of its Thanksgiving offer, with frozen turkeys priced at US$0.79 per pound or less through November 26. The retailer says shoppers can also assemble its listed ingredients for a traditional meal serving 10 people for under US$35, bringing the focus beyond the centrepiece to the wider cost of hosting.
The suggested basket includes a 14-pound frozen turkey, a five-pound bag of russet potatoes and three pounds of sweet potatoes. Meijer-brand green beans, mushroom soup and crispy onions provide the basis for green bean casserole, alongside stuffing mix, gravy and dinner rolls. Fresh cranberries, pumpkin, pie crusts, evaporated milk and whipped topping round out the selection.
Presenting the offer as a meal gives shoppers a more concrete planning reference than a turkey price alone. It also puts Meijer’s own-label products across several familiar dishes, from sides to dessert. For the retailer, the approach makes its grocery range central to the occasion while giving customers a defined list around which to organise their shopping.
The turkey promotion runs through November 26, with a specific condition in Wisconsin: Meijer frozen turkeys are US$0.79 per pound with a US$25 purchase. Meijer says customers can access additional savings through its mPerks loyalty programme, available online and through the free Meijer app. The under-US$35 figure refers to the retailer’s listed ingredient selection.
The wider promotion continues beyond Thanksgiving. More than 80 Meijer-brand items for holiday meals and baking are discounted by up to 45 per cent through December 24. The range includes broth, canned vegetables, cream cheese, crackers, bacon and meatballs, as well as flour, sugar, cooking spray and butter spreads. Foil, parchment paper and food-storage products are also included, extending the offer to preparation and leftovers.
Meijer expects to sell more than one million turkeys and seven million pounds of russet and sweet potatoes in the weeks before Thanksgiving. Those forecasts underline the scale of the seasonal shop, while the December end date gives the broader own-brand promotion a role across subsequent holiday gatherings.
The offer places familiar dishes and practical household essentials within the same value message. For Meijer, Thanksgiving provides an opportunity to demonstrate how its own-brand range can support a full hosting occasion, with the turkey drawing attention and the surrounding ingredients carrying that proposition through the rest of the meal.
