The campsite platform’s 2026 rankings spotlight highly rated outdoor stays within an hour of ten major US cities, with 57hours as presenting partner.
The Dyrt has announced its 2026 Best Places to Camp Near Cities list, presented by outdoor-adventure platform 57hours, highlighting one campground near each of the ten most populous cities in the United States. The selected sites are within 50 miles of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas or Jacksonville, and are described as reachable in under an hour. The announcement reflects a practical strand of the camping market: making outdoor trips possible without requiring a long journey.
The list is built around the tension between camping’s appeal as an escape and the limited time, opportunities or resources available to many travellers. The Dyrt said its collection responds to that constraint by focusing on highly rated and reviewed campgrounds close to major metropolitan areas. The company also cited estimates that nearly 100 million people live within 50 miles of the ten largest US cities, giving proximity a central role in the selection.
The rankings place Stella Mare RV Resort first for Houston, followed by Stafford Beach Campground at Cumberland Island National Seashore for Jacksonville and Usery Mountain Regional Park for Phoenix. Parsons Landing Campground represents Los Angeles, while AMC Harriman Outdoor Center in Harriman State Park is listed for New York. The remaining selections are The Range Vintage Trailer Resort for Dallas, Fiddlers Cove RV Park for San Diego, Summit Vacation Resort for San Antonio, Camp Reinberg for Chicago and Blackbird State Forest Campground for Philadelphia.
The Dyrt chief executive Kevin Long said the list’s takeaway is that people in the United States are generally close to a quality campground, including those working in city-centre offices. That positioning makes the rankings more than a geographic directory: they package camping as a short-break option, with convenience placed alongside campground quality. The release said the selected properties were highly rated by members of The Dyrt Community and could compare with sites on the company’s broader Best Places to Camp lists.
The partnership also links campsite discovery with guided outdoor experiences. 57hours connects people with certified local guides for activities including hiking, biking, climbing, skiing and sailing, while The Dyrt offers campsite information and a paid PRO service that includes campgrounds, a free-camping collection, an RV Trip Planner and reservation alerts. Together, the announcement keeps the emphasis on access rather than distance, suggesting that a city-based customer may not need to choose between everyday routines and a nearby outdoor break.
