The aircraft seat-map specialist has added Matt Daimler to its founding team while taking its measured approach to cabin choice into mobile products and route comparison.
AeroLOPA has added SeatGuru founder Matt Daimler as a co-founder, secured new funding and introduced native iOS and Android apps for its architect-drawn aircraft seat maps. The move extends the company’s existing website into mobile while adding tools designed to help travellers compare cabins, assess individual seats and track aircraft changes. AeroLOPA says its website records 5 million page views per month and licenses its technology to online travel agents, app developers, airlines and aircraft manufacturers.
The company began as a hobby project by former Foster + Partners architect Gregor Milne, who created scaled airline-interior maps and published them online before teaming up with Jonathan Shapiro, managing director at Triton Software Ltd. Its maps depict real aircraft interiors rather than abstract seat diagrams, with details including legroom before bulkheads, window alignment, exit-door intrusion, proximity to lavatories and access to facilities. The service remains free for travellers through AeroLOPA.com.
The new mobile service adds route-based seat-map searches across multiple carriers, offline storage, travel-day aircraft-change alerts and Sunny Side, a feature showing which side of an aircraft will receive sunlight on a specific flight. After a 14-day free trial, the subscription costs $5 per month or $29 annually, according to the company. AeroLOPA has also added Super Schedule, which compares aircraft operating between two airports by cabin layout, Wi-Fi, lavatories, seat type, bed dimensions and the relative ranking of each class.
AeroLOPA’s positioning rests on turning cabin geometry into comparable measurements rather than relying solely on passenger ratings or airline descriptions. The company says its scoring considers legroom, bed length, seat width, window alignment and direct aisle access, with cabins ranked as Top, Middle or Bottom against comparable offerings in the same class. Its maps are already used by ExpertFlyer, Planepoints and SlickTrip, while the company says the data can support personalisation, automation and accessibility tools for travel businesses.
Daimler’s arrival gives the venture a founder associated with an earlier generation of digital seat information as AeroLOPA develops a broader product and licensing model. The company says the funding will support an expanded team and faster product shipping, while Super Schedule and the mobile apps push its service beyond static pre-booking research. For travellers, the practical proposition is a more detailed way to judge the physical trade-offs behind a flight choice; for industry partners, AeroLOPA is presenting the same underlying measurements as structured cabin intelligence.
