Gonzalo Güelman Ros brings more than 30 years of hospitality experience to Fairmont Mayakoba as the Riviera Maya resort marks its 20th anniversary year.
Fairmont Mayakoba has appointed Gonzalo Güelman Ros as its new general manager, placing an executive with more than 30 years of hospitality experience across the Americas and the Caribbean at the helm of the Riviera Maya resort. The appointment comes as the property begins what it describes as a new phase of transformation and celebrates its 20th anniversary. Ros’s remit includes continuing the resort’s development while maintaining a focus on personalised service and elevated programming.
Ros has held senior leadership roles with Conrad Hotels & Resorts, The Ritz-Carlton, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and St. Regis Hotels & Resorts. Most recently, he was general manager of The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort. Fairmont Mayakoba said his career has included guiding high-profile properties through complex openings and multimillion-dollar renovations, alongside a progression from food and beverage operations into executive roles at large-scale resorts.
The resort said Ros combines operational discipline with a people-centred leadership philosophy. He is also the founder of Talisman Group, a firm focused on curating luxury residential experiences, and previously served as co-chief executive and general manager of Xala Development, an eco-conscious development on Mexico’s Pacific coast. In a statement included in the announcement, Ros said he intended to build on Fairmont Mayakoba’s existing legacy and continue developing the property’s position among Mexico’s luxury resorts.
The leadership change is accompanied by a set of initiatives presented by Fairmont Mayakoba as part of its anniversary year. The resort recently introduced “Past, Present, and Paradise”, an immersive art installation featuring established and emerging Riviera Maya artists, and expanded its wellness offer with a Wellness Suite designed around restorative experiences for luxury travellers. The property also highlighted its gastronomic programme, wellness facilities and renewed Maykana beach club.
Fairmont Mayakoba is located within the Mayakoba complex on 19 hectares of the Riviera Maya and includes 401 rooms, 10 swimming pools, 15 dining venues, a gym, the Fairmont Spa and a convention centre. The resort said its facilities were designed in harmony with the surrounding natural environment and that it holds the AAA Five Diamond designation. Ros’s appointment therefore places an experienced resort operator within a property whose next stage is being defined through leadership, cultural programming, wellness and hospitality operations.
