The new browser-based Scenario Editor lets healthcare educators adapt VR simulations to local protocols, records and formularies without coding or waiting for vendor changes.
SimX has introduced Scenario Editor, a no-code tool that allows healthcare simulation teams to modify virtual reality training scenarios around the clinical practices of their own institutions. Available through a standard web browser, the platform lets educators change elements including patient dialogue, electronic health record screens, medication formularies, learning objectives and assessed competencies without requiring programming skills.
The update addresses a practical limitation of standardized simulation content: even a technically sophisticated scenario can lose relevance when its details differ from the environment where learners will eventually work. Previously, SimX users seeking changes such as different patient responses or institution-specific EHR screens had to request those modifications from the vendor, adding another step between educators identifying a training need and putting an updated scenario in front of students.
Scenario Editor shifts more of that work to simulation facilitators themselves. Users can upload screenshots reflecting systems such as Epic and Cerner, customize the medications available in a virtual Pyxis, revise critical actions to match curriculum or accreditation requirements, and tailor learning objectives for different cohorts. New patient and non-player-character dialogue can also receive AI-generated audio, which SimX says is typically produced within hours.
The platform includes non-destructive versioning, meaning customized scenarios are saved separately while the original remains intact. That feature may be particularly useful in medical education, where different cohorts, facilities or training objectives can require variations of the same underlying exercise; customized scenarios also remain compatible with the company’s existing AI Assistant without additional configuration.
More broadly, the release reflects an effort to make immersive medical training less dependent on one-size-fits-all content. Virtual reality can reproduce complex clinical situations without putting patients at risk, but its educational usefulness also depends on whether learners recognize the workflows, terminology and systems they are being asked to navigate. By allowing educators to adjust those details directly, SimX is placing more control over simulation design with the people responsible for aligning training with local clinical practice.
