Backroads is making thousands of 2027 private-group departures available at current pricing, giving travellers earlier access to dates and itineraries.
Backroads has made more than 3,000 departure dates across over 250 2027 active-travel adventures available for private groups at 2026 prices, provided reservations are made by April 15, 2026. The move gives friends, families and colleagues earlier access to trips that can be reserved as private departures, reflecting the growing importance of flexibility in group travel planning.
Founded in 1979, Backroads operates in active and adventure travel, with itineraries centred on activities including biking and hiking. The company says private-group bookings rose sharply from 2020 onwards and that its Private Trip business has since achieved double-digit growth, with Hiking & Walking trips now outpacing Biking trips as the fastest-growing option for private groups.
Travellers can select dates set aside specifically for private bookings or take over a scheduled departure that has not already been booked by other guests. Backroads says organisers arranging travel for groups of 12 or more can receive savings of between 25 and 100 per cent off their individual trip price, while more than 7,000 Private Trip dates are expected to be available to book from April.
The offer extends beyond a larger calendar of departures. Backroads presents private travel as a way to simplify planning and coordination while giving groups control over dates and itineraries, and it is also making additional 2027 departures available for notification as they are added later in the spring. A separate Private Reserve programme is aimed at smaller groups, with select 2026 departures starting at a 10-person minimum rather than 12.
Private Reserve options include destinations such as Italy’s Dolomites, Provence and Alaska, alongside the Azores, Scottish Highlands, Poland and Slovakia. Taken together, the expanded schedule and temporary pricing window position private departures as a more structured part of Backroads’ offering, while leaving groups to balance destination, activity and timing according to their own plans.
