The Aviotec acquisition expands Canopy’s European engineering and manufacturing base while preserving local leadership and customer relationships in Italy’s space sector.
Canopy International B.V., the Amsterdam-based European platform of Canopy Aerospace & Defense, has acquired Turin-based Aviotec S.r.l., a supplier of multi-layer insulation blankets and electrical harnesses for satellites and spacecraft. The transaction brings Aviotec’s design, analysis, manufacturing and integration capabilities into a broader operating structure serving institutional and commercial space programmes across Europe. Aviotec’s Turin operations will continue under existing leadership, with the company’s team, facility, design authority and customer relationships remaining in place.
Founded in 2008, Aviotec has developed more than 15 years of expertise in thermal-protection multi-layer insulation blankets and high-reliability electrical harnesses. Its work extends from design and analysis through manufacture, integration and testing, alongside in-house satellite design and integration services. The company supports institutional space programmes and a growing base of commercial customers across Europe’s space economy, positioning the acquisition around specialised technical capability rather than a change in customer-facing identity.
Canopy International said the combination adds funding, engineering knowledge and manufacturing capacity to support Aviotec’s continued growth. The European platform is designed to give specialist businesses local leadership and customer interfaces while providing access to shared engineering, research and development, and supply-chain resources. For Aviotec, that structure means its Turin team can draw on capabilities from a larger organisation while continuing to manage operations and customer relationships locally.
The deal illustrates a platform approach to aerospace supply chains in which specialist manufacturers retain technical and commercial accountability while gaining access to central resources. Canopy International’s stated role is to coordinate capital, technical resources and operational capabilities across European businesses, with each portfolio company remaining the primary customer interface. In Aviotec’s case, the emphasis is on combining local knowledge of thermal protection and harnessing with additional engineering, research and development, and manufacturing support.
Canopy Aerospace & Defense describes itself as an international, vertically integrated advanced-materials platform serving air, land, sea and space applications. Its European operations are independently managed through Canopy International, which works with local businesses while coordinating shared support. The Aviotec transaction therefore extends an existing model into another specialised space supplier, keeping the Turin operation locally managed while connecting it to a wider European industrial base.
