Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum has joined TIME’s 2026 global destinations list, elevating Qatar Foundation’s cultural and educational ambitions.
Qatar Foundation’s Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum in Doha has been named one of TIME World’s Greatest Places 2026, placing the Education City institution among 100 destinations recognised by the magazine. The announcement, issued on June 9, 2026, gives Qatar Foundation, also referred to as QF, a prominent cultural milestone less than a year after the museum’s inauguration. It also positions the museum within Qatar’s expanding arts and culture landscape, while retaining its connection to the foundation’s wider education and community ecosystem.
The museum was inaugurated on November 28, 2025, after being commissioned by Qatar Foundation and built within its Education City campus. Its recognition follows the opening of an institution devoted to the work of M. F. Husain, the Indian modern artist whose career and influences connected South Asia, the Arab world and broader international audiences. TIME’s selection highlights the museum as more than a conventional display space, describing its role in bringing Husain’s life and work into dialogue across those cultural regions.
Lawh Wa Qalam traces Husain’s artistic journey through more than 150 works and objects, including paintings, sculpture, film, tapestry, photography, poetry, installations and personal items. The collection also includes works from his Arab Civilization series that had not previously been seen, while Seeroo fi al ardh, described as Husain’s final masterpiece, has been incorporated into the museum’s architecture. The building itself was designed by Indian architect Martand Khosla, based on a concept sketch by Husain.
The recognition gives the museum visibility within the international cultural travel conversation, but its significance in the release is also institutional. Qatar Foundation presents the venue as part of a broader setting where art, learning, innovation and exploration intersect, with more than 100 public artworks displayed across Education City. The museum spans more than 3,000 square metres and combines original works, archival material, multimedia installations and spaces intended for reflection, discovery and dialogue.
For Qatar Foundation, the TIME listing reinforces the cultural dimension of a campus better known for its educational and research institutions. For visitors, the museum offers a concentrated route through Husain’s practice, personal history and engagement with multiple geographies, supported by architecture designed around the artist’s own vision. The award does not change the museum’s stated purpose, but it may broaden attention towards an institution built to connect artistic heritage with contemporary cross-cultural exchange.
