Bourn Companies and Valencia Hotel Group have appointed two Tucson hospitality veterans as the property prepares to join Hilton’s expanding Tempo lifestyle portfolio.
Uptown Lodging, LLC dba Tempo Tucson Uptown has named Darren Haley as general manager and Janet McClanahan as director of sales and marketing for Tempo by Hilton Tucson. Bourn Companies is managing the site buildout, while Valencia Hotel Group will oversee hotel operations when the property opens. The 144-room hotel is under construction in Tucson’s Uptown district and is expected to open in January 2027.
The appointments place experienced local operators at the centre of a hotel project tied to the redevelopment of the former Foothills Mall site. Haley has more than 15 years of hospitality experience across Tucson and Hawaii, including roles with Hilton, IHG and Four Seasons. McClanahan, a Tucson native, has more than 25 years in hospitality positions across Southern Arizona, including work with Hilton, Marriott, Choice Hotels, independent resorts and full-service convention properties.
Haley most recently served as general manager at DoubleTree by Hilton Tucson – Reid Park and previously led Homewood Suites St. Philip’s Plaza. McClanahan most recently worked as area director of sales and marketing at Focus Hospitality, which operates Tucson’s Hampton Inn & Suites and TownePlace Suites. Their roles will cover the property’s day-to-day leadership and commercial activity as construction progresses.
Tempo by Hilton Tucson is planned to include suites and connected rooms, five wellness rooms equipped with Peloton bikes, more than 3,000 square feet of divisible meeting space and a private dining room that can also function as a boardroom. Other elements include the Moonsong café and bar concept, spirited and free-spirited beverage options, a second-level pool deck, a fitness centre and Hydration Bars offering complimentary still, sparkling and alkaline water in the lobby and on every floor.
The hotel will form part of Uptown, Bourn Companies’ planned 2 million-square-foot mixed-use redevelopment, which is designed to combine residences, retail, dining, lodging, entertainment, offices and wellness-focused experiences. For Bourn Companies and Valencia Hotel Group, the leadership appointments establish the operating team for a property intended to connect a contemporary lifestyle brand with a major Tucson redevelopment.
