The Gulf Coast destination will host a national collegiate championship weekend while presenting racing, recreation, dining and culture as one visitor experience.
Coastal Mississippi is positioning Gulfport’s 2026 USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National Championships and Age Group Event Weekend as more than a competition, with CLASH Endurance hosting athletes and fans from March 27–29. Presented with Visit Mississippi and the City of Gulfport, the event links national-level endurance racing with the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s wider tourism offer. The approach reflects a familiar destination-marketing strategy: use a scheduled sporting event to encourage visitors to stay beyond the course and explore the surrounding area.
The event will be based at the reconstructed Barksdale Pavilion in Gulfport’s Jones Park, where participants are scheduled to swim, cycle and run along the Mississippi Sound. The programme includes race distances from 15.6-mile sprints to full 45-mile triathlons, alongside relays and duathlons. That range allows the weekend to address collegiate competitors, experienced endurance athletes and first-time racers without narrowing the destination’s appeal to a single sporting audience.
Coastal Mississippi’s itinerary extends from post-race recovery to family activities and local entertainment. The destination highlights casino spas, IV hydration and cryotherapy providers, golf courses and 62 miles of shoreline, while also pointing visitors towards nature trails, kayaking, paddleboarding and boating. Cultural and leisure options include the Gulfport Arts Center, Mississippi Aquarium and Hippie Fish, with restaurants, breweries and live music completing the proposed stay-and-play format.
The partnership gives the destination a platform to combine sports tourism with its broader identity as a coastal leisure market. Coastal Mississippi CEO Judy Young described the weekend as an opportunity to showcase the region’s shoreline, communities, food and music, while Visit Mississippi Director Rochelle Hicks said the event would connect athletic achievement with the state’s culture, cuisine and hospitality. Those comments frame the race as a gateway to destination discovery rather than a self-contained fixture.
For CLASH Endurance, the Gulfport weekend adds a new location to an event portfolio that includes races in Daytona and Miami, while Coastal Mississippi gains a defined occasion around which to organise travel, hospitality and local experiences. The event’s scheduled combination of competition and visitor programming gives the region a way to market the Gulf Coast to athletes, supporters and accompanying families at the same time.
