Discover Flagstaff is positioning Flagstaff’s 2026 festival programme around Route 66, dark skies and Pride, giving the destination a varied year-round cultural offer.
Discover Flagstaff is promoting dozens of festivals and special events across Flagstaff during 2026, with the programme anchored by the Route 66 Centennial, the 30th Flagstaff Pride in the Pines and the 25th anniversary of the city becoming the first International Dark Sky City. The calendar spans arts, music, cultural performances, film, food, science and outdoor activities. Together, the events present Flagstaff as a destination whose visitor appeal is built around recurring cultural occasions as well as its surrounding landscape.
The programme’s most concentrated period begins in spring and extends through the autumn. The Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival is scheduled across performances from March 27 to October 25, while the Mountain Film Festival and Northern Arizona Book Festival take place in April, followed by ArtX in May. The city’s festival mix also includes Overland Expo, the Flagstaff Wool and Fiber Festival, the Flagstaff Folk Festival, a beer festival and the Flagstaff International Film Festival.
Route 66 will be the focus of a free celebration on June 6, with musical performances around Heritage Square, three-dimensional street art and skywriting planned for 11:30 a.m. The event coincides with Hullabaloo in Wheeler Park, creating a combined summer weekend programme. Flagstaff Pride follows on June 20 at Thorpe Park and is described as a free event, although attendees must reserve tickets online.
The dark-sky anniversary gives the calendar a separate environmental and astronomical dimension. International Dark Sky Week is scheduled for April 13-20 and includes Starlight in the Square at Heritage Square, while a Star Party with family activities and speakers is planned for October 1-3. Discover Flagstaff describes Flagstaff as the most populous dark-sky place in the world, while noting that more than 200 places have followed its example in protecting the night sky from light pollution.
Additional events listed for the year include the Celtic Festival, Chili Festival, Coconino County Fair, Festival of Science, Oktoberfest and Cornucopia, alongside music, arts and heritage programmes. The breadth of the schedule allows Flagstaff to connect several distinct visitor interests without relying on a single seasonal draw.
