The redesigned Carriage House reflects a growing demand for travel experiences that prioritize restorative spaces, thoughtful design, and wellness-focused amenities over traditional luxury alone.
Kohler, Wisconsin has reopened The Carriage House following an extensive redesign that reshapes the adults-only property into a more immersive wellness retreat. Located beside the historic American Club Resort Hotel with direct access to the Kohler Waters Spa, the renovation reflects a broader shift in hospitality toward accommodations designed around relaxation, longer stays, and intentional guest experiences rather than simply offering upscale lodging.
The redesigned property introduces 55 king-bed guestrooms with interiors inspired by residential living, replacing a more traditional hotel aesthetic with softer materials, natural textures, and a muted color palette. Bathrooms have also become a focal point of the renovation, featuring premium Kohler fixtures, soaking tubs, digital shower controls, and spa-inspired finishes that extend the experience beyond the treatment rooms of the adjacent Forbes Five-Star Kohler Waters Spa. Together, these changes suggest an effort to make wellness an integrated part of the guest experience rather than a standalone amenity.
Beyond the guestrooms, the renovation places considerable emphasis on shared spaces and the property’s historical identity. Expanded seating areas, updated furnishings, and redesigned public spaces encourage guests to slow down and spend more time within the retreat itself. Artwork throughout the property highlights Kohler’s equestrian heritage, including commissioned photography of horses from Kohler Stables alongside images of nearby landmarks, reinforcing a connection between the destination’s history and its contemporary design language.
The Carriage House renovation also forms part of a wider transformation taking place across Kohler’s hospitality portfolio. The destination is investing in additional recreational offerings, including The Serve, a racquet sports facility expected to open later in 2026, and Purebred Farm, a new 14-hole golf course under development within the Blackwolf Run complex. These projects signal an effort to broaden the appeal of the destination beyond its long-established reputation for golf and spa experiences.
As travelers increasingly seek accommodations that support wellbeing alongside leisure, hotels and resorts have responded by placing greater emphasis on restorative environments and personalized experiences. Kohler’s latest renovation illustrates how established hospitality brands are adapting to those expectations, using architecture, craftsmanship, and wellness-focused design to redefine what a luxury retreat can offer while remaining rooted in the destination’s own history and character.
