The cruise line’s expanded 2028 programme adds more port calls, broader regional coverage and year-round departures across Europe and nearby Atlantic routes.
Holland America Line has opened bookings for its 2028 Europe season, with sailings across Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and transatlantic routes. The programme is scheduled to run from January through early December 2028, with itineraries ranging from seven-day cruises to 48-day Legendary Voyages. The company says the season will feature its highest number of European port calls in nearly a decade, giving the announcement significance beyond a routine schedule expansion.
The deployment is built around travel through different parts of the year rather than a concentrated summer offer. Five ships — Rotterdam, Nieuw Statendam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Volendam and Zuiderdam — are scheduled to operate in the region, while Rotterdam is set to homeport once again in Rotterdam. The release highlights record numbers of visits to Norway, Spain, Ireland and the Netherlands, alongside access to more than 200 UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The Mediterranean provides one of the programme’s broadest areas of choice, with seven- to 11-day voyages departing from six homeports and visiting Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia and Turkey. Nieuw Amsterdam is scheduled to return to Europe for the first time in more than a decade, bringing offerings such as Morimoto by Sea, while Zuiderdam returns following its Evolution enhancements. The season also includes a 48-day Legendary Mediterranean Voyage roundtrip from North America and six calls at Portofino.
Northern Europe adds voyages of seven to 28 days covering Norway, Iceland, Greenland, the British Isles and the Baltic. Elsewhere, Canary Islands itineraries combine Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote with ports in Portugal, Spain and Morocco, while transatlantic crossings connect Europe and North America. Overnight stays, extended calls and late-night departures are intended to provide additional time in selected ports, according to the release.
The structure places seasonal variety and longer regional combinations at the centre of Holland America Line’s European offer. Winter sailings extend towards the Canary Islands and North Africa, spring departures include the Low Countries and Mediterranean, and summer itineraries broaden into Norway, Iceland and the Baltic before autumn voyages continue through early December. Alongside an Europe Insider calendar and an early-booking package, the 2028 programme gives the cruise line a detailed framework for maintaining European visibility across more of the year.
