Holland America Line’s 2027–2028 Caribbean season emphasizes extended itineraries, deeper destination experiences, and upgraded ships as travelers increasingly seek more immersive cruise vacations.
Holland America Line is expanding its Caribbean offerings for the 2027–2028 season with an emphasis on longer voyages, extended port visits, and a broader mix of destinations across the region. The cruise line’s new schedule includes 29 itineraries across 47 departures, ranging from five-day escapes to a 28-day voyage inspired by the historic Pan Am flying boat routes. The announcement reflects an evolving trend within the cruise industry, where operators are increasingly catering to travelers who value spending more time exploring destinations rather than simply visiting a larger number of ports.
A notable feature of the season is Holland America’s focus on itineraries lasting nine days or longer, which the company says outnumber those offered by any other cruise line in the Caribbean. The routes span the Eastern, Western, and Southern Caribbean as well as Panama Canal sailings, visiting 35 ports across 25 countries and territories. Nearly every itinerary also includes a stop at RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, the company’s private island in the Bahamas, where new amenities such as an upgraded beach club, expanded cabanas, refreshed dining options, and additional recreational facilities are planned.
The cruise line is also pairing new itineraries with investments in onboard experiences. Guests sailing later in the season will be among the first to experience the reimagined Oosterdam, which introduces new accommodation categories, including solo verandah staterooms and additional premium suites, alongside new public venues such as the Grand Dutch Café. Shore excursions developed with The HISTORY Channel, locally focused “Meet the Makers” tours, regional dining experiences, and the company’s Global Fresh Fish Program are intended to strengthen the connection between onboard life and the destinations being visited.
Among the season’s most distinctive offerings is the 28-day Pan Am 100th Anniversary Legendary Voyage, tracing many of the airline’s historic Caribbean and Latin American flying boat routes while calling at 19 ports in 13 countries. Holiday cruises during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year will also feature seasonal entertainment and dining, providing additional options for travelers seeking celebrations at sea. Together, the expanded itineraries and fleet enhancements suggest that premium cruise operators are increasingly competing not only on destinations but also on the depth, flexibility, and overall quality of the travel experience they provide.
